Color Match Monday: Lime + Lavender

It's Monday! And that means I'm sharing another color matching inspiration! To be honest, I was a little nervous about this one. I do like green and purple together, as in olive and dusty purple, which this color story is certainly not. But, if the colors show up in fashion, someone must be willing to wear them, so they can't be that bad. Lime + Lavender it is. Today's colors were inspired by this photo by @nocturne via @notjustalabel and shared by @colorstoriesbystacia on Instagram. This is where I've been getting all my color inspiration at the moment although I'm hoping to get outside my craft room at some point and find my own real life inspiration somewhere.  The Challenge: I decided to use the Spellbinders Stitched Card Front on white this time, which presented the challenge of incorporating all the colors into the design with thread! To accomplish this, I simply picked a single element to stitch in each of the seven colors, and that just happened to ...

Color Match Monday: Daydreams

Hello, and welcome to another Color Match Monday! I so enjoyed the dreamy colors I used last week , but honestly, and this might sound weird, I have been missing pink in my life. Weird, right? Anyhow, I was determined to find one of @colorstoriesbystacia 's color combos that would give me a heavy dose of pink.  I stumbled upon this photo  by @jordanfmcqueen via @rareform   in Stacia's Color Stories , and even though I'm not much of a tropical beach lover, I couldn't resist the pinky-peachy-purpley colors. Admittedly, I did have a little trouble matching up a couple of the colors to the paper and DMC floss I have on hand, but I got as close as possible. (And I have a list of DMC colors to shop for!) Stitching: For the background, I die cut an A2 panel of Gina K Powder Blue card stock, using the Spellbinders Circular Stitch Background . This color could have been a little more purpley-blue, but it is what it is.  Using the DMC colors noted in the photo, I sti...

Color Match Monday: Summer Wardrobe Palette

Hello, and welcome to another Color Match Monday! With last week's colors , I went  BOLD , so this week, I decided to look toward soft and dreamy colors for inspiration. I found that inspiration in this photo taken by  @brandonmaxwell  for  @voguerunway  and shared by  @colorstoriesbystacia .  Now, if you know me at all, you know that fashion is the absolute furthest thing from my mind. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is closer to the bottom of the list of things I care about. Irregardless (don't you just love misusing that word!), I was drawn to the pretty lavender and olive colors in this runway photo.  A Design with Movement: I've used the Spellbinders Circular Stitch Background many, many times on cards, so this time I wanted to step things up a bit. I had the idea I could create movement in the design by using two colors on each circle, and rotating these colors around the circles. Here's a horrible mock-up of what I mean by this: Despite my in...

Shell-abrate Summer: Sharing Summer Week #1

Hello, and welcome to an exciting day! Today, I participated in my very first Instagram hop ! I feel honored and privileged to be part of the Sharing Summer Cardmaking Challenge hosted by @thatcraftygolden .  The week 1 theme, Shell-abrate Summer, posed a bit of a challenge for me because, in all my crafty stash, I have nothing that screams, or even whispers, beaches, shells, water, or tropical vibes. Nothing.  Lucky for me, what I lack in stamps and dies, I make up for in DMC floss. To pull off the theme, I turned to the Spellbinders Stitched Fanfare die and semi-patriotic, but definitely tropical, colors.  Fanfare ( noun) : ballyhoo, hullabaloo, panoply, and obviously, shell-abration. Yep. All synonyms. Dilemma solved. I dived right in.  Diecut Surgery: My goal with this design was to have all the "fans" in the fanfare radiating away from the a center point instead of facing the same direction. Here, it will help to see the starting point.  I cut  two ...

Color Match Monday: Desert Sunset

Hello, and welcome to, what I hope to be, the first of many Color Match Mondays!  (Yeah, I made that up!)  I recently happened upon @colorstoriesbystacia on Instagram, and it got me to wondering if color combinations in nature and other forms of art really do offer foolproof color recipes for card making. So, I figured I'd give it a go. The Color Story Inspiration: Each color story is based on a photograph, and the colors that make up the photo are shown along the right side. I match up these colors to DMC thread or card stock, and these products become the basis for my card.                                              photo credit: @colorstoriesbystacia & @lilmisch Now, don't think for one second this is quick and easy! With 500 DMC floss colors to choose from, it can take me an hour (at least) to choose the closest colors. This often al...
